USPF deploys facilities in 1,336 public secondary schools

The Secretary of Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF) Mr. Abdullahi Maikano said it has deployed information and communications facilities under its USPF School Access Programme (SAP) in about 1,336 public secondary schools across the country.

Maikano who was represented by USPF Head of Information Technology Project, Mr. Abubakar Yakubu disclosed this in Lagos during the inauguration of the SAP project at Oke Magba Senior High School in Epe, Lagos and explained that the programme which started in 2007 had transformed Information and Communication Technology (ICT) knowledge of students at various benefiting schools.

DigitalSENSE Business News recalls that 40 per cent of the two and half per cent of income levy paid annually by telecom operators to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) goes into USPF.

Each benefiting school, he said, under USPF SAP is given 100 computers with free internet access for one year and taking into cognisance the power situation in this country power, such school also receives a 5KV solar power solution.
