Seriki bags award, retools students with digital devices

The Chief Executive Officer and Group Managing Director, Omatek Ventures Plc, Mrs. Florence Seriki, has been conferred with the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Business Administration by the management of Caleb University, Imota, Lagos State.
DigitalSENSE Business News reports that the conferment of the award was in recognition of her outstanding role in the development of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) industry, local contents, and youth empowerment as well as the overall Omatek's contribution to the society; especially the educational sector took place at the university third convocation ceremony.
 In a citation read by the university's spokesperson, Prof. Sunday Ajayi, noted that Omatek Ventures Plc, which manufactures computers and sundry electronic products, was founded by Seriki from training people on how to use computer as a youth corps member, "is the product of nothing more than hard work, determination and ability to identify opportunities.”

DigitalSENSE Business News noted from the citation that Seriki is an established, accomplished and passionate education investor, who has developed ICT proficiency and entrepreneurial skills that have helped in driving the vision to make Nigeria ICT-compatible.
Vice Chancellor of Caleb University, Prof. Ayodeji Olukoju, said the conferment of the doctorate degree also offers the rights and privileges attached to the award, stressing that “this award is the first to be conferred on a female honoree, is in recognition of her entrepreneurial accomplishments and exemplary leadership in the country’s private sector. It is also a tribute to her unique contribution to the domestication and localization of information and communications technology, and its adoption in the education sector of the country.”

Receiving the honorary degree, Seriki thanked God and the university management for the honour, stressing that the award would further encourage her to do more.
"I was just doing what I am passionate about as an entrepreneur and I did not know this will come my way. Please, accept our sincere appreciation at Omatek on this honour that you have given while I promise to continue to contribute to the society," Seriki asserted.

Highlight of the occasion was the donation of laptops to the best graduating students and best computer student in the school made by Mrs. Seriki, with a promise to extend similar gesture to the best female chemical engineering student, by the time the university starts running the Chemical Engineering as a course.
