The National Association of Telecoms Subscribers (NATCOMS) has called on the telecom operators to erect additional Base Transceiver Station (BTS) to improve the quality of their services and Internet speed.

The President of NATCOMS, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo gave this advice while speaking with DigitalSENSE Business News in Lagos, and explained that with the increasing number of subscribers in the various networks it has become necessary for the telecom operators to erect more infrastructures to meet the challenges that often lead to poor quality of services.

“Low tariff also increased the number of call frequency; hence the present base stations cannot accommodate effective services. With additional base stations to accommodate the volume of voice calls, I believe that all telecoms operators will further reduce their tariffs,” he said.

He noted that the telecom operators still face the challenges deployment of base stations and urged government to provide lasting solutions to them.

Ogunbanjo also informed DigitalSENSE Business News that about 150 base-stations were affected natural and man-made disasters in 2012, especially bombing and flooding.

“Low tariffs from the operators have increased the number of calls frequency, hence the current BTS cannot accommodate effective service.
“With more base stations to accommodate the volume of voice calls, I am very optimistic that all telecoms operators will further reduce their tariffs,” he said.
