All is now set for the 2013 edition of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation (CTO) forum, with focus on ‘Innovation Through Broadband,’ which kicks off Monday, October 7 through Thursday, 11, at the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
According to the Secretary General, CTO, Prof. Tim Unwin, in
the company of the Executive Vice Chairman, NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah, gave this
assurance in a chat with DigitalSENSE
Business News at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, venue of the weeklong forum.
Prof. Unwin also said that the Forum is the constitutionally
mandated ‘flagship’ event of the CTO which takes place every year, just as this
year’s event offers regional and international solutions for those in
Commonwealth regions sharing knowledge, lessons learnt and key information
about technological advances across the Commonwealth and beyond.
With the theme ‘Innovation through broadband’ the CTO boss
noted that this year’s theme would afford speakers and exhibitors to provide
critical updates and insight into infrastructure, security and application
challenges.
This event hosted by the Nigerian Communications Commission
on behalf of the Nigerian Government, the CTO Forum brings together Ministers,
Senior Officials, Regulators, Universal Service Fund Administrators, Operators
and Vendors.
Stressing that the objective of this event is to showcase
presentations, workshops and sessions that will answer the questions many
attendees now face with regards increasing usage, enhancing access and rolling
out suitable infrastructure.
Some of the key topics to be addressed by the forum include “Future
Networks – Infrastructure development and enabling business; Internet Security
and Cybersecurity – Developing protocol and ensuring resilience; Beyond Social
Media – From likes to learning; Cloud – Infrastructure development, security
concerns and data management; and Broadband as an enabler for women, young
people and entrepreneurs.

Business News recalls that this year event is organised by the Commonwealth
Telecommunications Organisation in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of
Communication Technology and Nigerian Communications Commission on behalf of
the Federal Government of Nigeria.
Also speaking, the EVC, NCC, said Nigeria is excited to host
this year’s event and as part of its streamlining broadband deployment to the
underserved, said, NCC is working on strategies to get this all-purpose
broadband to the through the Universal Service Provision Fund (USPF).
The strategies, he disclosed would soon be unveiled to the
industry stakeholders in matter of weeks.
