Broadband: Vodacom urges citizens to demand easier access to government

Vodacom has urged citizens globally and particularly in Nigeria to lookout and demand for easier access to governments through broadband enabled environment.

The Managing Executive, Public Enterprise, Vodacom, Ms Mickey Mashale, made this call at the 2013 forum of the Commonwealth Telecommunication Organisation in Abuja, while speaking to DigitalSENSE Business News, saying that easy access to information lower cost of communications.

According her, with Vodacom as a partner, portends a wheel of fortune, citing for instance, the partnership with the education community of multiple architectures whereas citing a case study of the Mpumalanga Department of Education.

This, she said, enables Learner Unit Record Information and Tracking System (LURITS) in addition to housing educator records in phases, but include Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and IP multicasting overlay services of connectivity to Learners through the broadband connected environment.

Additionally, she said that Vodacom works with organisations via content partners to provide services, for instance, in e-Learning, eHealth, emphasizing that with as simple as everyday broadband use when enabled on network, services could be anywhere.

She disclosed that Vodacom’s partnership with government for social security under its SMART …. X initiative, facilitates remote monitoring and control is an all-rounder, especially leveraging broadband to turn cities, regions, provinces and countries to SMART connected.

Mashale explained that SMART connected is chip based, remotely and pro-actively managed communications which distinct itself from just part of the “black box” modem or meter.

“Managing large volumes of SIM cards in the field can be demanding,” she observed, noting that how communications costs are contained and managed, infrastructure support as well as hardware upgradability to future needs are key to seamless SMART connection.

For her, future smart grid for Nigeria must include future smart homes and experiences of the citizenry to do their businesses without much stress, therefore, Vodacom offers core capability, network, systems, service, security, and application architecture respectively toward achieving these goals.
