Guinness Nigeria plc has been described as
the biggest United Kingdom (UK)-parented company in the Nigerian Stock Exchange
(NSE).
This was disclosed to DigitalSENSE Business News by
the Chairman, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr. Babatunde Savage, recently when he
played host to the British Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, Mr. Peter Carter
at its brewery in Ogba, Ikeja-Lagos State.
Mr. Savage also said that in terms of
capitalisation, turnover and profits, Guinness Nigeria leads hence they are
proud of their British legacy.
“Guinness is the biggest UK-parented Nigerian
Company quoted on the Stock Exchange, in terms of capitalisation, turnover and
profits and we are indeed very proud of our British heritage,” he declared.
He also applauded the Deputy High
Commissioner for making out time to visit the plant upon his resumption as the
Deputy British High Commissioner based in Lagos, expressing gratitude to the
British High Commission for its support to the company over the years.
The visit, Savage said, is critical to
fostering stronger cordial ties between the two institutions and its various
stakeholders both in Nigeria and abroad, which afforded the commissioner an
opportunity to tour the brewing giant’s Ogba facility, while both parties also
took the opportunity to discuss boosting British investments and strengthening
existing ones in the country.
In his remarks, the Managing Director and
Chief Executive Officer, Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr. Seni Adetu, gave the
background and portfolio of Guinness Nigeria depicting it as a caring
organisation.
“We pride ourselves in adding value in every
environment within which we operate. This we do through various Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) activities across various communities in the
country,” he told the High Commissioner.
Responding, the British Deputy High
Commissioner commended Guinness Nigeria for sustaining the legacy of the parent
company, Diageo by providing consumers in Nigeria with the quality and premium
brands the company is known for worldwide.

that Guinness Nigeria Plc was
established in 1950, making it one of the oldest companies in Nigeria and listed
on the Nigerian Stock Exchange in 1965.
Currently Guinness Nigeria Plc has a shareholder
base of over 75,000 shareholders, and has built its first brewery in Ikeja in
1962, and presently has facilities in Ogba, Benin City and Aba.
