Eastern States, Lagos missing at NCCT’13 meeting

The second sitting of the National Council on Communication Technology commenced Monday at the Jojein Hotels and Resorts Akure, Ondo State with virtually all the Eastern States missing.

This is coming as Lagos, the commercial nerve centre of the country was absent from the meeting.
Investigations conducted by DigitalSENSE Business News at the event, showed that out of about 13 State Governments represented only Abia State is from the East.

Although until the time of filing this report, delegates from Abia State, the only core Igbo State, are yet to make contributions except for the introduction of the delegation.

Some participants who spoke to DigitalSENSE Business News said that its very disguising that out of the all the Eastern States that only Abia was present at the first day of this weeklong event.

According to our source, it’s important that the Eastern States change their attitude over national issues by taking issues and subject that has to do with national interest at heart.

Lagos State was the former capital of Nigeria until the era of General Ibrahim Babangida as president and also houses all the communications giants in the country including the headquarters of MTN Nigeria, Etisalat Nigeria, Airtel Nigeria and Globacom.

In addition, DigitalSENSE Business News gathered that Lagos State play host to all the marine cable that entered Nigeria including that of Globacom and MainOne, which shows its importance to issues of communication in Nigeria.

But as at the time of filing this report, Lagos State seat was visibly empty. This concern was also shared by the chairman of the National Council on Communication Technology and Permanent Secretary, Communication Technology, Dr. Henry Akpan.

On the other hand, about 14 states including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were in attendance alongside several federal ministries, departments and agencies.

... Making SENSE of digital revolution!
