MTN
Foundation has lifted the security situation in Ondo State by way of donating
vehicles, as part of its corporate social
responsibility.
MTN Foundation is CSR arm of MTN Nigeria, said the donation of patrol
vehicles to the government of Ondo state was made under the Foundation’s
Security Support Project (MTNF-SSP) officially flagged off the second phase of the
initiative.
Taking
position of the vehicles, Governor Olusegun Mimiko applauded MTN Foundation for
showing concern over the security situation of the country by donating security
patrol vehicles.
Also,
he said the initiative would help complement efforts made by the government in
securing lives and properties of indigenes of the state.
“Government can’t handle the security challenge
alone which is why we are particularly gladdened by this gesture and we are
calling on other service providers to emulate the gesture of MTN and support
government’s effort in providing adequate security for residents of Ondo as
well as the entire country,” he noted.
Equally speaking, Mr. Akinwale
Goodluck, Corporate Services Executive, MTN Nigeria said the gesture is a contribution
of the foundation to support the efforts by the state government to enforce law
and order and keep the citizens safe.
“It
is common knowledge that security of life and property is critical to the
growth and development of any state and is therefore an area that should not be
left for the government alone. We are passionate about improving the quality of
life in Nigeria and contributing to socio-economic growth. We constantly seek
out opportunities to contribute to the development of the communities where we
operate.”
Ondo
State has been a beneficiary of the MTN foundation activities such as the
MTNF-Rural Telephone Project, MTNF Disability Support Project, MTNF Learning
Facility Support Project, MTNF Youth Skills Development Project, MTNF
Scholarship Scheme for students and now MTNF Security Support Project.
MTN
Foundation has invested over 7 billion naira in social projects in areas of
education, health and economic empowerment in 338 locations across the 36
states of Nigeria including the FCT.
Other
dignitaries present at the donation were Deputy Governor of Ondo state, Alhaji
Ali Olanusi; Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Rotimi Adeola; Attorney
General and Justice Commissioner, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede; Chief of Staff, Dr. Kola
Ademujimi; Head of Service; Mr. Toyin Akinkuotu; and MTNF officials including
the Executive Secretary MTN Foundation, Ms. Nonny Ugboma, among others.
