Nigeria has unveiled a new mobile data feature, the Multi-Device Plan, to
complement the Easyblaze mobile internet service.
Director,
Business Segments at Etisalat Nigeria, Mr. Lucas Dada, explained to DigitalSENSE Business News that the
multi-device plan allows users to access the same data bundle from various
devices by duplicating a primary (parent) SIM card into up to 4 other SIMs.
These duplicate SIMs can then be inserted into data-only devices such as
tablets, USB modems and 3G cameras.
He also said
the plan is a solution which gives customers better control over their data
activities, by managing their data usage on multiple devices from a single source,
usually their Smartphone.
“Many of our
premium customers own more than one data-enabled device, and for them
convenience is a priority as they go about their busy lifestyles. The idea
behind this service is to ensure that they have uninterrupted access to data on
all their devices irrespective of where they are” he said.
In addition,
he said that customers can now buy one data plan on their Smartphone and use
the data allocation on up to four different data-enabled devices.
“This
service offers an added benefit over wi-fi or hotspotting: it does not require
a device to be close to the hotspot source to enjoy Easyblaze mobile internet.
This means that a customer may use a Smartphone for calls and browsing, an iPad
for heavier browsing and downloads, a USB modem for laptop connectivity, and a
router to leave at home for the family,” he said.
According to
him, customer’s main phone acts as the Primary SIM, making it easier to top-up,
check balance and choose data plans.
“Customers
no longer need to buy separate data bundles for each device, making data
recharge more convenient. There is also added value in buying a larger data
bundle, rather than several smaller bundles,” he said.
Equally, he
said, customers are required to get new, non-activated SIMs in order to
successfully duplicate the primary SIM. The PIN of the parent line, which by
default is 0000 and Pin Unlocking code (PUK) on the frame of SIM cards are also
required to activate this service.
