AfriNIC is the regional Internet registry (RIR) for Africa with headquarters in Ebene City, Mauritius.

DigitalSENSE Business News recalls that following a proposal for setting up an Internet registry for
Africa by several early Internet adopters in Africa, during an INET workshop in Malaysia  in 1997,  a steering committee was set up to work on AFRINIC's structure and business plan, which later berthed in 2000.

Noteworthy is that Mr. Folayan, who was a member of AfriNIC board between 2004 and 2010 is the managing director of Ibadan-based Skannet Limited, and has been a pioneer Executive board member of NIRA, who was elected the vice president in 2010 and was re-elected in 2013 Annual General Meeting (AGM).

He promises to bring to his latest board a wealth of experience in institutional governance from his experience as Managing Director, in addition to a suitable level of problem solving skills from his wealth of experience.

Folayan has proven ability to bring people together and get them to work on a common course and based on his training experience, would be able to break down complicated issues into information that is easy to understand.

Further, he pointed out that being that AFRINIC has membership with varying skills, abilities and strengths, Folayan would be able to appropriately engage with membership at various levels.
