The Federal Government through the Minister of
Communication Technology has pledged its commitment to protect the over $25
billion investment in the nation’s Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
sector.
Minister of Communication Technology,
Mrs. Omobola Johnson, disclosed this to DigitalSENSE Business News at the just concluded Edo State Technology Day, stressing that the
National Assembly has also realized the pressure on it to legislate for the
protection of ICT facilities and also on the county’s cyber security.

Business News gathered that the Federal Executive Council (FEC) has
approved a comprehensive cyber security bill that has received input from all
stakeholders, and now before the National Assembly.
Also gathered by DigitalSENSE Business News was
that from the Minister that the bill when passed into law will make the ICT infrastructure
to be declared as a Critical National Infrastructure that will check mate the
activities of individuals who take delight in committing terrible crimes in
cyber space.

Communications Commission (NCC) and the International Telecommunications Union
(ITU) have jointly signed a Memorandum of Understanding, (MOU) to establish a
regional cyber security centre in Nigeria that will help to protect the
citizens’ online activities as well as check the activities of cyber criminals.
The Minister of Communication Technology has
established a Government Integrated Financial Management Information System
(GIFMIS) that manages budget execution
process , helps identify and address sources of leakage in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),
and deployed e-service for customs, Integrated personnel and payroll
information system (IPPIS) to flush ghost workers, and e-Wallet to
save farmers.
