The Chief Executive Officer, Airtel Nigeria, Mr Segun Ogunsanya made the call during his presentation at the The Nigerian Telecom Development Lecture (NITDEL) 2013, while speaking on the topic ”The Nigerian Telecom Market: Championing the cause through Broadband” and said that the economy development of a nation can be accelerated by improvement in the country Information Communication Technology(ICT) infrastructures.
He said that 40 million people were won to the internet, but only six per cent of population have access to Broadband, and called on the regulator, NCC to provide more spectrum for mobile Broadband in the country.
Ogunsanya pointed out that Airtel 1SIM is the only mobile network that gives access wherever one is in the country as the customers are made to pay the same tariff to all the networks.
Equally, he said, customers only need to visit any Airtel shops with their old but functional device of any given brand and network, then pay an exchange fee of N23,990, to own the Lumia 520 to enjoy 6 months free airtime for on-net calls and data worth N6,000.
