The National Information Technology
Development Agency, (NITDA) has explained by the committee on the Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) was recently inaugurated.
Director-General, NITDA, Prof.
Cleopas Angaye gave reasons on why the PKI committee was set, saying they are
to development a blueprint for the Information and Communication Technology
(ICT) sector in the country.
He tasked members to live up to
expectation, adding that formation was borne out of the decision reached at the
meeting with Financial System Strategic Committee 2020 which was held on
Tuesday, October 16, 2012.
“With the caliber of people we have
in the committee, we should be expecting good report in the next three months
when they will turn in their report,” he said.
The Committee’s Terms of Reference
(ToR), he outlined to include review of the project plan and come up with the
implementation strategies, including timeliness, target; Resource allocation
and deliverables work with NITDA to plan an inclusive stakeholders’ review of the
PKI governance and structures recommended in the draft framework; and to
recommend any other necessary action for a successful deployment of the PKI has
three months to submit its report to NITDA.
Chairman of the committee, Dr.
Ashiru Daura in his acceptance speech assured of their readiness to deliver on
the ToR.
“We accept the honour to serve the
nation. We have accepted the term of references and God’s willing, as committee
members we will do our best to promote ICT in Nigeria,” he said.
Acting Head Corporate Affairs
Department, NiTDA, Mrs. Hadiza Umar in a press statement made available to
DigitalSENSE Business News says the committee members were drawn from NITDA,
National Security Adviser (NSA), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Independent
National Electoral Commission (INEC), Nigerian Communication Commission, (NCC)
and National Identity management Commission (NIMC).
Others she said, are National
Population Commission, (NPC), Nigerian Computer Society, (NCS), Galaxy
Backbones Plc, Financial System Strategy, (FSS 2020), Nigeria Interbank
Settlement System, (NIBSS), PKI Consultant, while NITDA will serve as the
secretariat.
