FG chooses Lagos, Cross River to pilot innovation centres

The Federal Government has revealed plans to build innovation centres in Lagos and Cross River State at the pilot stage before rolling such to other states of the federation.
The innovation centres which would be software incubation centres, Communications Technology Minister, Mrs. Omobola Johnson noted is part of the ministry's project towards building a knowledge-based economy.
A sum of N500 million from the $15 million Technology Venture Capital Fund has been earmarked for the building of the software incubation centres.
Johnson said the N500 million is from the Federal Government in order to attract the remaining $12 million, about N2 billion from participating investors.
According to her, the initiative would be run by a non-profit organisation despite the fact that it’s government-inspired.
She also revealed that the software incubation centre for Lagos would be delivered towards ending of 2012 or early 2013 and that the one for Calabar would be ready by the end of the first quarter of 2013.
