In her presentation at the occasion, entitled “Banking Supervision-Using Technology to Avert Crises” the Director Banking Supervision, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mrs. Tokunbo Martins, noted that an organisation must enforce segregation of duties; restrict access to IT systems and files; limits the functions individual may perform; and help prompt detection and response to potential fraud incidents in the deployment of technology to avert crisis in banking supervision.
Mrs. Martins said, the banking sector occupies a vital position in the economy, so also technology in banking supervision.
“It has been projected that technology would continue to play a revolutionary role in the development and delivery of banking products and services. Hence, an effective and efficient supervisory process must be responsive to these opportunities and challenges. It then becomes imperative that carefully formulated and well-implemented IT controls would go a long way in not only stemming the rising level of frauds prevalent in the entire banking system; but also averting banking crisis,” she said.
Equally speaking on “Technology in Telecoms: A tool for cost
reduction or differentiation” the Chief Information Officer, MTN Nigeria, Mr.
Charles Molapisi, recognized the fact that operational cost, business process flexibility
and IT/business alignment are the three phased approach transformation from IT
to Business Technology.
To enhance organisation’s value proposition, he said,
technology must ensure prioritization is driven as a collective effort in
addition to developing a model to run for retiring applications, as well as imbibe
enterprises architecture as an enterprise strategy not IT; and analytics centric decision making in the organisation.
