The Nigerian Communications
Commission (NCC) has concluded plans to take its investment drive, especially
in the area of broadband telecommunications deployment, to the ITU Telecom
World holding in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
The Executive Vice- Chairman, NCC,
Dr. Eugene Juwah affirmed this plan, saying that the minister of Communications
Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson is leading Nigerian delegation to the
International Telecommunications Union conference holding in Dubai, between
October 14 and 18, 2012.
Also, he said the ITU event
features high quality, influential mix of participants drawn from across the
global Information and Communications Technology industry alongside Heads of
Government, offered the best platform to woo investments to the broadband
communication sector.
Broadband refers to a
communications bandwidth of, at least, 256 kilobits per second. Each channel is
six MHz wide and it uses an extensive range of frequencies to effortlessly
relay and receive data between networks.
Further, Juwah said owing to the
benefits of the new telecommunication model, the current management of the NCC
had been championing the initiative in the country.
“Nigeria’s broadband initiative is
aimed at rapidly changing lives and approach to businesses through increased
efficiency and attracting investment. It is also aimed at connecting the entire
nation and sub-region. It is in view of this that the NCC is taking the
campaign for broadband investment to ITU telecom World 2012, Dubai, UAE, in
order to attract investors in the broadband deployment across the country,” he
said.
