Error code 507 on my Blackberry

Error code 507 on my Blackberry
Hello PCFix, my Blackberry screen became blank with this error code 507. Please help, thanks. Olakunle Adesanya
Answer
Hi Olakunle, the error code displayed on your device indicates a major software error; the way forward is to perform a re-installation of the blackberry operating system software specific to the model. You can do this by downloading and installing to a computer - Blackberry desktop manager from www.blackberry.com, then connecting your phone via USB to the computer, follow the prompt and click update.
The computer should be connected to the internet, so that the desktop manager can download the phone operating system software from blackberry servers. Depending on the speed of your internet connection, it should take between 3 to 5 hours to complete downloading and installation.
Please note that you will lose all the data on the phone after the new operating system software is installed. However, if you do have backups that you have made on a computer or on Blackberry servers via the Blackberry protect app, you can restore your data and continue from where you left off. It is good practice to have backup of your device both locally (on your computer) and remotely (on servers across the globe).

Handling expired software trial version
Hi PCFix, I once used Your Uninstaller software you mentioned on your radio programme a while ago. It has since expired and is requesting I buy the software. I uninstalled and reinstalled but it still says my trial period is over. Is there any other software that can do the same work? Agboola Francis
Answer
Hi Francis, please note that trial software publishers make sure there are registry entries that will prevent users of trial software (a.k.a trialware) to continue using the software after the expiration of the trial period.
So, no matter how you go about it, you will have to purchase the software to continue enjoying its benefits. However, you can get alternative software that will perform the same basic functions, iOBit Uninstaller, Perfect Uninstaller, Kingsoft Antivirus (in-built uninstaller) and more are examples of what you need.
Note: Uninstallers are software that cleans your computer of junk leftover files after you remove a software or group of software from your computer. Unlike the inbuilt uninstaller in software, that ignore certain files in your computer registry, cache folders and temporary folders, uninstallers are programmed to scavenge such files and delete them thereby freeing up system resources. You should install one today, and routinely scan your computer for leftover junk files.

Using Nokia N73 as modem
Hello PCFix, I do connect my Nokia N73 phone to my HP Laptop as a modem to browse the internet. Of late, it no longer connects to the internet; I have tried automatic and manual configurations both on my phone and on my laptop, all to no avail. What might be the cause? George Omonson
Answer
Hi George, please note that a number of factors may be responsible for the inability to connect to the internet with your phone as a modem. Starting with the obvious, please ensure that you have an active data bundle subscription on your SIM, then connect your phone to another computer and try using it as a modem.
If it works, then the error is on your computer, if not, then the error is on your phone. Next, you should update the Nokia desktop manager on your computer to the latest version of the Nokia suite, update the firmware on your phone to the latest update, and ensure that your antivirus or firewall software is not conflicting with unknown or untrusted networks.
Lastly, you should delete all previous configurations on your phone and computer, and then start the connection afresh. One sure way to isolate the error is to try and connect to the internet on your phone, if that works, then you have your answer, and if not, we know where else to look.
You should also consider connecting your phone to your computer via Bluetooth if you haven’t already, and if you have, check the USB cable that is currently being used. The above tips are to help you isolate the problematic device, and if all else fails, you should reinstall the operating system software on your phone (a.k.a flashing) and perform a system restore on your computer to an earlier date before the non-connection error started.

Using Optical Media – recovering data on disc
Hi PCFix, you talked about optical media on your radio show the other day and I couldn’t call in, but I want to find out how I can recover my data on a disc that has some scratches on it and while copying, I get the cyclic redundancy check error. It is very important, thanks. Janet O.
Answer
Hi Janet, be informed that optical media is a bit trickier than the magnetic media, while the latter can be cloned (or ghosted) the former cannot. Since the optical media deals with light and its principles (reflection, refraction, and diffusion) the slightest dent can cause massive loss of data.
However, there are certain software that pride themselves in the ability to reconstruct bad or damages segments of data stored on storage media (magnetic, optical, and flash), they include Super Copier, Tera Copy, Ultracopier and Copy Handler. While the list is by no means exhaustive, you will find them pretty good when you want to move large chunks of data, especially video files from one device to another. They also vary in their file re-constructing abilities.
Note: Do not write on discs with sharp objects; always use a felt-tip pen or whiteboard marker. The data on discs are stored underneath the label, and not on the surface that you see the data on. Then it is advisable to stored discs in a cool, dark place as they are light-sensitive, especially to heat.

Copying songs/audio from a CD
Hi PCFix, I tried copying songs from an audio CD I just bought into my laptop and it copied, but whenever I click on the songs, it will not play, unless I insert the disc into the computer before it will play. Please help because the files are not playing on my phone either. Ahmed J.
Answer
Hi Ahmed, the format of encoding audio CD is different from regular data on discs. You will need to RIP the audio from the audio CD and this is a process where the encoded data on the audio CD is being decoded and saved in a format that your computer understands.
This format can either be .aac, .wma, .wav, or .mp3; these are the formats that you can copy to your mobile phone, and other mobile music players you may have. You can make use of the following software to rip your audio files from the discs; Windows Media Player, Express RIP, iTunes, SongBird, and Real Player.
There are more software on the internet that can help you get the same things done, but these are highly recommended.
Note: The files you copied directly from the audio CD are usually 44 bytes in size and may have the extension .cda or .au, and they are just shortcuts (addresses, pointing to the real data) and that is why you would need to have the audio CD inserted before the data on it is played.
