Nigerian Tunde Coker heads Emerging Markets Payments in West Africa



Tunde Coker, newly appointed Regional Head, EMP for West Africa

Emerging Markets Payments (EMP) has appointed Mr. Tunde Coker as its Regional Head for West Africa.

The chief executive officer, EMP Bank Processing Division, Ms. Hoda Shoukry, confirmed this to DigitalSENSE Business News on Tuesday.

She said that EMP's Bank Processing division provides card personalization, card hosting, card processing and Automated Teller Machines (ATM) and Point of Sale (POS) driving services to 135 banks across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region.
“50 of these are in West Africa, which highlights the importance of this appointment," she said, stressing that West Africa region has the potential to be one of the fastest growing regions in the world for electronic payments given the current low penetration of formal financial services.

DigitalSENSE Business News recollects that Tunde Coker was the former Group Chief Information Officer for Access Bank, one of Nigeria's leading banks and during his tenure, Access Bank recorded improved ranking from number 11 to a top 4 bank.

Also, Mr. Coker was responsible for integrating Intercontinental Bank's systems with Access Bank. Additionally, prior to Access Bank, he was Group IT Director for the United Kingdom (UK) Ministry of Justice, Group Applications Director for BP International and Director of Digital Services for Egg Bank in the UK.
Shoukry pointed out that Mr. Coker would be key to spearheading EMP's drive to provide the region with world-class technology and products, given his outstanding record in the banking sector both in West Africa and the UK, coupled with his experience in banking systems,” continued Hoda Shoukry.

Tunde has a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Glamorgan University and an MSc from Cranfield Institute of Technology.
