Single-window portal puts govt non-sensitive data online

The Federal Government has explained why it recently launched a single-window service portal, saying it’s to put government’s non-sensitive data online, thereby putting more government services online.

According to the Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, the Federal Government led by President Goodluck Jonathan believes people would make use of the internet when they see the needs.

“We believe people will make use of the Internet when they see that it is relevant to their needs,” she said.

Speaking to DigitalSENSE Business News recently in Abuja, Mrs. Johnson noted that her Ministry is supporting the creation of relevant, local content; coordinating with other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to put more non-sensitive data online.

She said that the single-window Government Services Portal that was launched in April this year tends to close the gap between the government and the populace, as well as improve the overall security of the Governments’ technology infrastructure.

“The Internet has a broad range of applications and intersects various public institutions. Setting policy and its regulation therefore cuts across various Government institutions,” she said.

This, she said, is a services single window portal where Nigerian could get all the information on all government to citizens (G2C), government to business (G2B) and government to foreign (G2F) national services in Nigeria.

She elucidated that the contents of the portal are managed by the Federal Ministry of Communication Technology and the portal is currently available in three languages, namely English, French and Spanish.
