Durban’13: Quaynor, Chedade, Crocker, Pierre to address press Monday

Renowned ‘Father of the Internet in Africa,’ Dr. Nii Quaynor would join the chief executive officer of the Internet Corporate for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), Mr. Fadi ChehadĂ© to address the global media on Monday, July 15, to herald the commencement of the 47th ICANN public meeting in Durban, South Africa.

Also, part of the panel is the board chairman, Dr. Stephen Crocker and Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement for Africa, Mr. Pierre Dandjinou, according to the director, Global Media at ICANN, Mr. Brad White.

DigitalSENSE Business News, recalls that recently Dr. Quaynor was inducted into the Internet Hall of Fame, having spent about two decades promoting the Internet’s growth across the African continent.

Quaynor, it was confirmed would join ICANN leadership to answer questions about the expansion of the Internet in Africa and how increased online access is expanding business potential and information access across the region.

Mr. White noted that its expected that the panelist would also address ICANN’s role in Internet growth and its increased efforts to internationalize the organization.

In addition, he said, they would take questions on the global expansion of the Internet, and a variety of ICANN-related subjects, ranging from growth of Domain Names to ICANN’s plans to increase its presence on the continent of Africa.

He further said that Journalists are encouraged to attend the Welcome Ceremony and President’s Opening Session on Monday, 15 July at 0830, where  Dr. Elham Ibrahim, the African Union Commissioner for Infrastructure and Energy would be among the speakers.

White encouraged Journalists who are unable to attend the Durban meeting to remotely participate in the news conference via a live video web stream or an international toll-free telephone connection.


“A recording of the news conference will be posted to the press page of the ICANN web site (http://www.icann.org/en/news/press) after the event,” he said.
