D-G NITDA, Angaye bows out, Daura in acting

Following the expiration of his second tenure which began in 2004 as the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) the erstwhile Director General, Professor Cleopas Officer Angaye, at the weekend bowed out of the agency.

This is coming as he handed over the helm of affairs of NiTDA to the Director, Software and Outsourcing department, Dr Ashiru Sani Daura, who will be acting as DG in the main time.

DigitalSENSE Business News confirmed this handover took place last Friday 6, June 2013 at NiTDA office in Abuja, even as its noteworthy that Prof. Angaye joined the NITDA as Director of Software in 2004 and rose to the position of the Director General in 2005 following the demise of Professor Gabriel K. Ajayi.

Angaye served in that capacity for eight years and attained the mandatory retirement status to vacate the position.

For some of his employees, the professor of Software Technology would be remembered for his passion and commitment to the development of Information Technology (IT) in Nigeria.

DigitalSENSE Business News investigations revealed that the acting Director General, Dr. Ashiru Sani Daura, was born on December 12, 1956 and hails from Maiadua Local Government Area of Katsina state.

Dr. Daura joined the agency as a Director, zonal coordination in 2005 and rose to become Director, Technical Services which later evolved into the Infrastructure and Capacity Development (ICD) department from 2005 to 2008.

In 2009, he assumed the post of Director, Software Development and Technical Research and Outsourcing, which became the Software and Outsourcing department in 2011, a portfolio he held until his present appointment as acting DG.

Daura’s educational sojourn includes a BSc in Electrical Computer Engineering from King Abdul Azeez University, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia (1984), Masters in Computer Vocational Education M.Ed. from the Colorado State University (CSU) (1990) and a PhD Digital Signal Processing, University of Newcastle, United Kingdom (1998).


He was the Head of Department, Electrical and Electronics department and Dean Faculty of Engineering at the Nigeria Defence Academy now Nigeria Defence Academy University before he joined the services of the agency.
