VP Sambo to chair Telecom awards 2012 in Lagos


The vice president of the federal republic of Nigeria, Alhaji Namadi Sambo has been appointed the chairman of this year’s edition of the Nigerian Telecom Awards.

Secretary-General of the organizing committee for the awards, Otunba Biodun Ajiboye said that the dinner and gala nite would hold September 8, 2012, adding that it would attract all the winners.

He said, a total number of 88 companies, are vying for about 33 categories of the awards, as he called on Nigerians to nominate for free to make their comments and or vote for any nominee of their choice.

He also disclosed that the 2012 edition of the awards would witness Nigerian telecom awards Monday, July 30, 2012, released the list of nominated companies to vie for the crown in this year’s competition.

The journey to the 2012 awards, he said, commenced April 14, that is immediately after last year’s awards that marked the 10th year of telecom revolution in Nigeria.

Ajiboye, who publishes the Nigerian Telecomnews, said the assessment team comprised of the panel of judges, top-notches of various newspapers including Phillip Isakpa of BusinessDay, Felix Abugu, editor of Saturday Guardian; Bolaji Tunji, editor of Sunday Mirror; Steve Nwosu - editor of The Sun.

He reassured that the panel has a major responsibility to “peruse the preliminary assessment of the primary assessors, before releasing it to the public.”

The appointment of the judges, he also said attracted very huge interest very competent people, particularly the media, was greeted with a lot of interest in the industry, which according to comments was a way of ascertaining the right assessments are made before public pronouncements.
