FUOE plans Software Freedom Day’12 in Nigeria


The Information and Communication Technology Centre of the Federal University Oye, Ekiti State has advanced plans to host a five-day Software Freedom Day (SFD) in conjunction with Computer Science Department.

The coordinator, Mr. Seun Ojedeji said the goal in this celebration is to educate the public about the benefits of using high quality Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) in education, government, home, business and everywhere.

He also said, SFD 2012 is expected to attract software programmer and enthusiast across the country, pointing out that the event is scheduled between September 10 and 15, with tutorial sessions and workshops.

Disclosing there would be concurrent training sessions during this period, whereas participation has been confirmed by Network Management and Monitoring Using FOSS, FOSS Business Model by ICT@innovation/GIZ Germany, Linux Essentials by Linux Professional Institute. This will be summed up with conference paper presentation on September 15, the SFD day.
 
Additionally, he said, there would be exhibitions, open discussions, and social activities.
