The Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) in
collaboration with the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) has finalized
plans to host a two-day on Local Internet Content Forum (LICF) with leading
mobile operator in the country, MTN Nigeria as the Platinum sponsor.
Disclosing this in a joint media
briefing attended in Lagos by DigitalSENSE Business News among others, the chief executive officer, IXPN, Mr. Muhammed Rudman said
LICF is a unique event that would facilitate discussions on the issues
surrounding local Internet content.
He also said that the event would
bring together key stakeholders in the Internet ecosystem in Nigeria to dwell
on the theme, “Sustaining Local Internet Content, the way forward for Nigeria.”
Equally he said, the event slated
for Thursday 25 and Friday 26, April this year at the Agip Hall of MUSON
Centre, Onikan, Lagos.
Expatiating on the participation,
the chief operating officer, NIRA, Mr. Ope Odusan said that expectations are
high as they look forward to welcome Nigerian content community, including
those players from the government ministries, departments and agencies, NIRA
registrars, telecom companies, financial institutions, tertiary institutions,
various professional and trade organizations as well as non-governmental organization
(NGOs).
In addition, Mr. Odusan said that
faith organizations, both print and electronic media, diverse categories of
content producers, authors, writers, bloggers and publishers, while not leaving
out Internet Service Providers (ISPs), host companies and industry regulators.
He stressed the importance of
carrying the Nigeria’s flag in the cyber space alongside, which is the country
code Top Level Domain (ccTLD) .ng, hence why NIRA is neck-deep in this forum
with IXPN and to ensure its success.
Speakers, they revealed have been
selected to share experiences and propose solutions to the challenges of
Internet content generation and hosting in Nigeria including how to monetise content
among others.
They went on to assure that this
event would not just be a talk shop, but rather coming together of professions
from various fields that would not just have bird’s eye view of the current situation
as far as of local Internet content is concerned, but rather an earthworm view,
by going deep down into the issues for serious diagnosis.
The two-day event, both
agreed, holds is a veritable market place for the content producer and
webhosting companies, as well as the key to promotion of the Nigeria’s identity
on cyberspace, .ng.
Just as it
forms basis for increased local content hosting and creation of more jobs for
the growing Nigerian populace whose daily existence is incomplete without the
Internet.
