Kenya gets greenlight to host 2nd AfIGF in September

The Government of the Republic of Kenya has been given the greenlight to host of the second African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF), scheduled to take place in September, 2013.

Disclosing this to DigitalSENSE Business News, official of the African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) confirmed that the second AfIGF will hold in Kenya between September 11 and 13, this year.

This, official said, follows the call for bid by the secretariat last December and submission by the government of Kenya through the Ministry of Information and Communication in February 2013.

DigitalSENSE Business News also gathered that this bid was confirmed in March, hence, the AfIGF secretariat announced that the 2nd African Internet Governance Forum will be held in Kenya.

“The meeting will be hosted by the Government in cooperation with the Internet Society Kenya Chapter,” AfIGF confirms.

DigitalSENSE Business News recalls that Kenya hosted with great success the 5th Internet Governance Forum (IGF), which had the highest number of participants in the history of the IGF.

The AfIGF secretariat commended the government and people of Kenya for agreeing to host, after Egypt, such an important African event, as they look forward to welcoming participants.

The first African Internet Governance Forum (AfIGF) was held at the Smart Village in Cairo, Egypt between October 2 and 4, 2012.
