NCC’s five-year strategic plan revealed

The Strategic Management Plan (SMP) to drive the telecom regulatory mandate in the fast lane of development for the next five years has been revealed by Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

Confirming this to DigitalSENSE Business News, the Head, Public Relations, NCC, Mr. Reuben Muoka, said the SMP a well researched output will guide the actions and mandate of the regulator and evolving telecom industry till 2017.

According to him, the formal presentation of the plan was made by the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of NCC, Dr. Eugene Juwah, in Abuja last week, and was a culmination of over 12-month industry consultations in a process managed by Price WaterHouse Coopers (PWC), with the cross section of the industry stakeholders and staff of the Commission made inputs at various stages.

Addressing the presentation participants, Dr. Juwah noted that the formal unveiling of the new SMP serves as a roadmap for the future, taking into consideration the current and emerging trends in the industry and the numerous expectations of the diverse stakeholders.

Also, he said, the SMP document is a somewhat liturgical document to ensure that NCC remains on track towards achieving the objectives which have been collectively articulated.

“A robust SMP like ours has many purposes such as ensuring the alignment of day-to-day work to the Commission’s strategy; prioritizing programmes and projects to achieve NCC’s goals and objectives; ensuring optimal use of NCC’s recourses; providing objective basis for performance monitoring and management, and meeting the Commission’s vision and mission,” he said.

Reacting after receiving the SMP and ceremonial commitments by all directors and heads of departments on behalf of the entire staff, the Executive Commissioner, Stakeholder Management, NCC, Mr. Okechukwu Itanyi, urged staff to see the declaration as an affirmation, and indeed a commitment to execute all tasks assigned to them in their departments’ scorecards within the lifespan of the strategic plan and would serve as a measure of their performances in the plan.
