Galaxy Note 8.0 is work, play companion – Kim, Samsung MD

Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa (SEWA), Mr. Brovo Kim, has described the Galaxy Note 8.0 recently introduced into the Nigeria’s market as a slim and compact on-the-go work and play companion.
This, he said, brings powerful performance and functionality support even to the most demanding of lifestyles.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, at the weekend, he said, the Galaxy Note 8.0 tablet has the power and advanced technology to evolve the tablet experience and ensure consumers achieve efficient multi-tasking.

“Using an intelligent S Pen, you can now enjoy the ease of a traditional pen and paper with the latest in Samsung notebook technological innovation, creating a sophisticated mobile experience that will enhance life on the go,.” Kim said.

He also said that the sleek new tablet, Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is a compact device offering convenient, multi-tasking capabilities and sophisticated S Pen features for the busy, modern and creative person.

Elucidating on this product, Head of Sales, Hand Held Products at Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Olumide Ojo, pointed out that Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 is packed with features to engage, entertain and excite.

“The Galaxy Note 8.0 supports users’ practical everyday needs. Reading Mode transforms the Galaxy Note 8.0 into an e-Book reader, providing optimal reading conditions to help ensure consumers can curl up and enjoy a good book,” he said.

He further said that creative multi-tasking with the Galaxy Note 8.0 is effortless due to its innovative dual view feature; two multi window options that seamlessly allow consumers to facilitate multi-screen usage.

“The Dual View’s split screen accommodates optimal operation of different apps, such as launching the S Note on the web browser screen and allowing content to be resized, dragged and dropped as required,” Ojo said.

On Samsung’s HomeSync, Mr. Ojo pointed out that it’s a home hub solution offering a shared storage fit for a family, the best entertainment experience on a big screen TV, and a new way of enjoying your High Definition Television (HDTV) through a familiar and smarter Android user experience.


The HomeSync’s 1Tera Bytes (TB) drive capacity, he said, could synchronize multiple devices, supports eight separate accounts to cover a whole family, and allows each user to upload and download content from multiple devices and instantly share with other family members. 

“Users can enjoy the full and familiar Android experience with HomeSync’s Jelly Bean media player and access to Play Store and all of their apps,” he said.

Alcatel-Lucent to unveil bold SDN vision for datacenter networking

Alcatel-Lucent may have advanced plans to unveil its vision for Software Defined Networking (SDN).
DigitalSENSE Business News can authoritatively confirm that to buttress this plans, Alcatel-Lucent is staging a webcast press conference Tuesday, April 2, 2013 to officially launch the SDN and some breakthrough the SDN has to offer for datacenters.

Samsung Smart ATIV Pc, Galaxy Note 8 enter Nigerian market

Samsung Electronics West Africa is keen at unveiling its Smart ATIV Personal Computer (PC) into the Nigerian market by next week, just as its Galaxy Note 8.0 is available in the region, while the Timeless Gallery Design Television will come to town by end of June, this year.

Head, Information Technology (IT) at Samsung Electronic West Africa, Mrs. Folashade Oyelayo, gave this insight at a quarterly media session in Lagos, Thursday.

She Smart ATIV PC offers a powerful PC experience and was designed for Windows 8, thereby giving consumers the full PC experience.

Oyelayo also said that Smart ATIV PC is compatible with Windows, Intel Atom Processor Z2760 for powerful PC performance and clamshell experience with full keyboard.

Additionally, she said that Samsung All-in-One PC and Notebook Series 9 are some of the products Samsung have strategically introduced into the market for Nigerian consumers.

For her, Samsung gives consumers value and introduces products to offer solution.

“You can equally type, write and use app market that can be downloaded. It also has Pen by the side,” she said.

Head, Hand-Held Products, Mr. Olumide Ojo disclosed that Galaxy Note 8.0 is now available in the West Africa region, stressing that Galaxy Note 8.0 facilitates on the go multi-tasking for its users and comes with portable design, slick, quad core to name a few.

“It’s a phone and it’s a tablet,” Ojo declared, adding that it has the capability to act as Tablet, e-Reader, Note, and remote controller as well as a Diary.

Samsung Home Sync, he said, is another product from the stable of the electronic giant, which has 1 Terra bytes of storage and linkable to the cloud.

“It plays your personal cloud for the future,” he said.

Head, Business to Business (B2B), Mr. Ayo Adegboye, discussed the rising need for people to bring their own device, stating that the enterprise mobility is no longer an option but a reality.

“Status of enterprise mobile market will increase demands for sophisticated security solutions,” he said, hence Samsung comes to town with Mobile Device Management (MDM) to checkmate any eventuality of data and devices getting lost.

For the Timeless Gallery Design, a new wave of Television design from Samsung, it commes with 85" and has been planned to be in the market by June this year.
Earlier, the Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Bravo Kim, disclosed that they are warming up to establish prizes for journalists by end of the year and encourage media support for the brand.

Quadruple partnership for 9jApps contest 2013

In effort at creating a bigger pie, the Nigeria application developers may be in for a better days as software giant, Microsoft Nigeria is leading the trio of Nokia, Dell and Co-Creation Hub (CCHub) offices in Nigeria, are jointly offering multi-million naira prize.

Managing Director, Microsoft West Africa, Mr. Emma Onyeje disclosed that the prizes which come in two categories consist of Window 8 Apps and Windows phone in that order, and portend good omen for contestants as six finalists will have cause to smile at the end of the competition by June 14, 2013.

For the Window 8 Apps category, the grand prize will be expected to go home with 2012/2013 KIA Rio automobile, and the second prize is N750,000 cash while the third prize winner will go home with a Windows 8 device each (X5).

And for the Windows phone category, he revealed that the grand prize will smile750, 000, second prize will get N500,000, whereas the third prize winner will get a Windows Phone 8 device (X5).

He also explained that the 9japps contest is a Microsoft initiative aimed at fostering innovation and creating personality around developers and their apps, in collaboration with Nokia, Dell and CCHub Nigeria.

The challenge, he said, has been designed to empower local developers to take advantage of Microsoft’s new tools and resources to develop locally appealing and locally-relevant apps for the Windows platform, utilizing Visual Studio 2012 and the Windows Phone-Software Development Kit (SDK), in addition to the Windows Azure SDK.

He explained that the 9jApps contest will run for three months heralded with this announcement and climaxing by June, 14, 2013, stressing that this contest is intended to empower the next generation of Nigerian developers, by helping them drive innovation and grow the local software economy.

This push for economic development through African innovation is one of the key drivers of the Microsoft 4Afrika Initiative, launched continent-wide in February this year.

Microsoft, he said, is committed to working with Africa’s students, entrepreneurs, and independent developers to help them create the next generation of world-class African apps on the Window Platform, to bring relevant content and new business opportunities to people across the continent.

“Nigeria is blessed with enormous talents, and Microsoft is proud to be able to help these talented developers to acquire new skills that will help them explore their potential and reach new heights,” he said.

Also speaking, Developer and Platform Evangelism Lead, Microsoft Nigeria, Mr. Oyeshina Oyetosho, said this is not development for development’s sake.

“This contest is about giving developers the skills and tools they need to help them publish their apps to the Microsoft Store so they can monetize their innovation and share it with the world. The Microsoft 4Afrika Initiative is rooted in the belief that African innovation can and will shape the future, so it is our hope that contests like this one can help fuel that cycle,” he said.
 
According to him, entries must be in the respective stores (Windows 8 or Windows Phone) by 14 June 2013 at 23:59:59 GMT, while Apps published and available in store before the contests are not eligible. Just as Apps developed for the Windows Phone platform must be compatible with low-end Windows devices.

Equally speaking, the Partner Manager, Developer Experience at Nokia West Africa, Mr. Olumide Balogun noted that Nokia is thrilled to partner with Microsoft, to bring the 9jApps competition to both students and independent developers.

“We are looking forward to some great solutions on the phone side leveraging both Microsoft WP and our Lumia devices capabilities to deliver locally relevant apps that we can export to the world,” he said.

On his part, the Country Manager, Dell, Nigeria Chuks Udensi assured of Dell’s commitment to the partnership and looks forward to great innovations to come from the competition.

And for Tunji Elesho Pre-Incubation and Research Lead for CCHub, “The Microsoft 4Afrika initiative is a laudable one which seeks to empower Africans. The entire plethora of what Microsoft is bringing is massive.”
