IP business in Nigeria still very high - Williams

Chief executive officer, Tara Systems, one of the pioneer Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in the country, Mr. Seni Williams, has said that Internet Protocol (IP) business is still very high.

According to him, Nigerian ISPs are still doing IP business at the highest cost with lowest speed, smallest capacity and lowest reliability.

Speaking to DigitalSENSE Business News on “Economics of local hosting: A viewpoint from an ISP” at a two-day Local Internet Content Forum (LICF) hosted by Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NIRA) and Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) in Lagos recently, Mr. Williams attributed the situation to lack of connectivity patronage to local exchange point, which offers multiple service providers ability to inter-connect with multiple service providers each with internet connectivity.

He also said that backhaul issue causes cost to both parties, stressing that IXPs domesticated interconnection assists in mitigating the challenges

He maintained that some key application drivers for an economic-driven ISP service includes cost, which must be low and speed, which must be high so as to have a huge scalability capacity, thereby offering a very high reliability network or service.
