Facebook Home shows FB not one-app company – Paul Amsellem

President of Paris-based full-service mobile marketing company, Mobile Network Group, Mr. Paul Amsellem has described the latest ‘Facebook Home’ application for smartphones as an expression beyond ‘one app’ company.

In an exclusive chat with DigitalSENSE Business News, Mr. Amsellem said that what the future holds for Facebook Home is its ability to impact on revenue margin for Facebook and generate mobile ad based on its business model.

Also, he said, it’s a way for Facebook to protect its Intellectual Property (IP) and not having Apple or Google validating its software innovation each time they want to release a new version of such apps into the market place.

“… In a nutshell, it is a way for Facebook not to be considered as one app among the others,” he asserted.

Reacting further on his earlier prediction on Facephone, which has become a reality with the Facebook Home app, mostly given the number of followership Facebook current enjoys online, Mr. Amsellem said the impact will depend on the innovation level they put on the app, could be null or big.

According to him, if it is only a branded phone with a Facebook homescreen, “forget about it, it will be a disaster.”

He emphasised that if Facebook innovate, for example, by creating a “new contact application for the phone with news advanced features, new photo and video tools with edition solution and smart direct upload on Facebook, or new messaging solution mixing Facebook messenger, SMS and MMS at the same time, it could have a big impact.”
