Imagine Cup 2013: Nigeria to present two teams


Nigeria would be represented by two teams at the 2013 edition of Imagine Cup to be held in Russia.
The Country Manager, Microsoft West Africa Anglophone, Mr. Emmanuel Onyeje disclosed this to DigitalSENSE Business News in Lagos in an exclusive interview. He also said that Nigeria would have two teams for Imagine Cup next year as against the usual single team.
According to Onyeje, the Imagine Cup, the world’s most prestigious student technology competition which brings student innovators together from all over the world is an avenue for youths to have their ideas come to life which is in line with objectives of the United Nation’s Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
The 2012 Imagine cup winners, Team cipher256 from Uganda emerged first with their WinSenga application, an affordable mobile antenatal diagnosis solution which was implemented via a Window phone.
Onyeje also revealed that the team from Uganda for the Imaging Cup 2012 would be crowned by Microsoft and will also go home with the sum of $55, 000 to help fund their prototype.
The crowning of the Ugandan team, he said would turn people on towards creating new amazing things.
DigitalSENSE Business News further gathered that grants for the winners are been judged on the impact and viability of the solution, team quality and motivation, solution design and innovation as well as problem definition.
Microsoft promises to give away over $300,000 in prizes and also fly finalist team to St. Petersburg in Russia in July, 2013 for the thrilling showdown at worldwide finals.
