The
Nigeria Internet Group (NIG), has concluded plans
to host its annual conference and exhibition 2013, with focus on the
development of broadband in Nigeria from Thursday May 30 to Friday May 31,
2013.
President of NIG, Engr. Adebayo Banjo, disclosed that the theme
for this year is “Broadband As A Tool In Nation
Building” and is proudly sponsored by the MTN Nigeria,
and the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
He pointed out that variously, broadband issues have ignited
the desire by the NIG to organize this all-important conference which would
offer more opportunity to examine and attempt to proffer solutions to issues as
critical success factors to the infrastructure provision in Nigeria,
development or improved Broadband penetration, appropriate legal and regulatory
framework and political-will from government to implement the right policies to
achieve a resounding success among others.
Banjo said that it would be an interesting two-day
interactive conference with experts from within and abroad the industry making
presentations on the theme and the sub-themes.
NIG, he also, views the annual conference
and exhibition 2013 as opportunity and a platform for all Internet Service Providers (ISP’s) in Nigeria as a
meeting point in one location for customers to see what is available across the
board and to make informed decisions.
According
to him, it’s an opportunity for a meeting of minds of web design agencies to
exhibit their products and services in addition to domain registrars for .ng
display at the conference, stressing that it would be offer opportunities for
corporate bodies and organizations to showcase their products and service
before a very quality audience.
He confirmed to DigitalSENSE Business News that the special
guests would include the Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola
Johnson, Science and Technology Minister, Minister of National Planning, Dr.
Shamsuddeen Usman, the Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi
Lamido and the Lagos State Commissioner of Science and Technology. Whereas the former Minister of Communications,
Engr. Olawale Ige, MFR who is also the Chairman of the NIG Board of Trustees
will chair the occasion.
While other dignitaries expected includes the
Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene
Juwah and the Director General of the National Information Technology
Development Agency (NITDA), Prof. Cleopas Angaye would both present
keynote addresses at the two-day event.
The event, he said, would include the NIG
Annual General Meeting (AGM), which would produce new Executive Committee that
would steer the affairs of the group for the next two years.
Just as he invited members to be part of
the AGM so as to elect candidates of their choice to run the affairs of the
group, even as new members are welcome to join the group.
