Mobile World Congress moves to Fira Gran Via

After 31 years of existence, the Mobile World Congress (MWC) will this year hold at the recently completed Fira Gran Via, the new home for the MWC.

Located just down the road from the old location, Fira Gran Via is a large state-of-the-art event space which will allow the show to grow and expand in the years to come, according to official sources.

Initially known as the Groupe Speciale Mobile (GSM) formed by the Confederation of European Posts and Telecommunications (CEPT) to design a pan-European mobile technology in 1982, while two years after, France & Germany sign a joint development agreement for GSM, while in 1985 ‘GAP’ (Groupe d’Analyse et de Prevision’) meetings took place resulting in European Commission endorsement of the GSM project. Ever since, the event has continued to grow from strength to strength.

DigitalSENSEBusiness News gathered that the as the mobile ecosystem continues to expand globally at lightning speed, offering endless innovation and new applications of connected technology.

MWC is reputed as the world’s premier industry relocating to a new world-class venue in the heart of the Mobile World Capital, where the theme of this year will centre on ‘New Mobile Horizon.’

“You won’t want to miss the opportunity to witness the industry’s continued expansion and growth. Join us in exploring the New Mobile Horizon at Mobile World Congress 2013,” part of the press statement from the organizers read.

Investigations by DigitalSENSEBusiness News showed why Fira Gran Via is assumed to better than the hitherto venue.

“Our new home has features, advantages and benefits that will make Mobile World Congress better than ever been,” official further said, stressing that  Fira Gran Via is comprised of eight exhibition halls under a single roof.

They also pointed out that the layout begins with Hall 1, located at the South Entrance, and continues to Hall 8 and the North Entrance. While in the heart of Fira Gran Via lies Congress Square, which is sure to be a great meeting and gathering point.

According to our findings, Halls 1 through 7 are single-level spaces, but has a dual-level walkway connecting the halls, complete with moving sidewalks, escalators and elevators, there is plenty of space for our 70,000 attendees to move along quickly.

Whereas another plus is that Fira Gran Via is very friendly for those attendees with mobility issues.

In addition, the only multi-level hall is Hall 8, which hosts the App Planet, mPowered Brands, Ministerial Programme, Exhibition space (Hall 8.1), and theatre events such as the Forum Series, App Developer Conferences (ADCs), mPowered Brands Theatres and Partner Events (Hall 8.0).
Further, the Halls 1, 2 and 3 contain Hospitality Suite and Meeting Room space, just as Halls 3, 5, 6, 7, 8.1, and Congress Square will contain Exhibition stands, even as Hall 4 will hold the Conference programme.

The new home is reportedly larger and gives Mobile World Congress the opportunity to continue to grow and expand in the years to come.

Currently, Fira Gran Via boasts 240,000 square meters of space, under one roof, which entails that Fira Gran Via is both 50 per cent larger than the previous location, and will be unaffected by February’s changing weather.
