High chief Alex Akinyele, chairman Zinox, Dr. Ekeh, Otunba Ajiboye |
The acclaimed Nigeria’s
pioneer computer brand, Zinox Computer Technologies, has been named the
Computer Company of the Year 2012 by the organizers of the Nigerian Telecom
Awards (NITA) over supports given to some state governments through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme.
The team led by its chairman,
Chief Alex Akinyele, in a presentation made in Lagos and attended by senior
management of the Logica Media Group and Zinox Technologies Limited, the
Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Nigerian Telecom Awards, the former
Minister of Information, said that Zinox won the award purely on merit.
Chief Akinyele who was
also a one-time Minister of Sports of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, said
that he was proud to be presenting the award – the Computer Company of the Year
2012 – to Zinox as a mark of honor, acknowledgement and respect.
Chief Akinyele revealed
that the Award was being presented after consideration of the superb
performance of Zinox during the voters’ registration exercise of 2011. He said
that Zinox not only delivered fully ahead of INEC’s lead-time but succeeded in
laying the foundation for the 2011 general elections.
By so doing, he said,
that Zinox restored credibility and confidence to the indigenous practitioners
in the ICT sector. Continuing the citation, Chief Akinyele said that the
clincher was that quite recently Zinox displayed the depth of its caring spirit
when the company donated patrol vans and security gadgets valued at over N100m
to Lagos State and Imo State.
Those donations to the
security sector, at this point in time, projected Zinox as a responsible and
responsive corporate citizen who is more interested in the growth and stability
of his operational environment than in his profit margin.
Commending Zinox for
the well considered intervention, Chief Akinyele said that Nigerians must note
that no foreign company can make such an investment in another man’s land. In
his words ‘only Nigerians can redeem Nigeria’.
In his response after receiving
the award, chairman, Zinox Group, Dr. Leo Stan Ekeh, commended the Nigerian
Telecom Awards for its contributions to the establishment of standards within
the industry.
Mr. Ekeh said that he
was accepting the award with a deep sense of humility knowing that it would
motivate him to greater heights, just as he used the opportunity to announce
that Zinox Telecoms, a subsidiary in the Zinox Group, has made substantial
investment in the installation of a state of the art C-band iDirect Evolution
Hub Technology.
Installed primarily for
better triple solution VOIP, DATA, VIDEO, INTERNET experience throughout
Nigeria, he said, Zinox Telecoms New Evolution Hub will supply efficient and
superior bandwidth to unravel the huge development potentials of Nigeria.
He said that the Zinox
Telecoms New Evolution Hub completely shatters the myth surrounding the Internet
as it will enable commercial and social enterprises, military establishments,
governments and grassroots organizers to build satellite based networks that
yield higher bandwidth efficiency with lower budgets.
“It offers solutions
for broadband applications ranging from network extensions, city plazas,
security patrols, point of sales, long distance learning, tertiary
institutions, energy and utilities, maritime, agriculture and internet cafes.
It is backed by the iDirect Evolution whose main advantage is the supply of
efficient and superior bandwidth, with in-built Adaptive Coding and Modulation
(ACM). The platform can adapt seamlessly with almost any data network,” he
said.
