Ugandan
President Yoweri Museveni has said that that there can be no transformation in
Africa without the information and communication technology (ICT).
Museveni
made this assertion at the just concluded Transform Africa Summit in Kigali, Rwanda
and informed his fellow Heads-of-State from Africa to note that the application
and use of ICT must be multi-directional and has to be integrated as part
of the entire social economic transformation process.
”ICT must not only be used to assist agricultural
development, manufacturing, in education and the services sector but it must
also be used as a sector by itself especially in out-sourcing of jobs abroad.
It must also be optimally applied in solving challenges in automation of
machines, storing and retrieving of information, identifying of persons, in
democratic voting systems, sorting out the wage bill and in defence systems,”
Museveni said.
He
disclosed that Uganda has acquired broadband backbone connectivity in 22 towns
and municipalities out of 112 in the country,
