Chief Obasanjo, former president
NATIONAL Association of Telecommunications Subscribers (NATCOMS) concluded its one-day national summit in Lagos, with a premium award to the former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, for his contributions to development and current evolution of telecom sector in the country.

Minister of Communication Technology, Mrs. Omobola Johnson, who was represented by the Deputy Director, Mrs. N. O. Ogujiofor, after delivering her opening remarks received the award on behalf of the former President, which was presented by NATCOMS president, Chief Deolu Ogunbanjo at the MUSON Centre venue of the event.

According to Ogunbanjo, former president was recognised for his role as between 1999 and 2007 when he was in office and was able to create the enabling environment for the smooth take-off of GSM operations in the country after the bidding and auctioning processes in 2001.

In his paper presentation, The Consumer in the Eyes of the Regulator, the Executive Vice Chairman and chief executive officer, Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Eugene Juwah, represented by the Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Tony Ojobo, said NCC views the consumer as a major stakeholder in the telecoms industry and defines such as any individual, corporation, community or institution who subscribes to the services of telecoms operators.

One of NCC’s mandates, he said, is to protect and promote the interests of consumers against unfair practices from service providers, adding, NCC would ensure a paradigm shift from mere service provision and delivery to consumer satisfaction.
